MAC 221: ANNOUNCING AND PERFORMANCE
TIME: 3 HOURS
Answer Questions 1 and Any Other Two Questions. Do not write anything on this question paper. Do your rough work in the answer booklet and cross it out later. 
1.       Discuss the reasons why Piers Morgan Live was cancelled by CNN pointing out the following in the process.
a.       The differences between his presentation style and that of Larry King whose show preceded his on the same slot.
b.      Lessons from the Piers Morgan debacle for presents who want to keep their jobs.
2.       Using illustrations from the careers of famous practitioners both in Nigeria and abroad, explain the duties of the following types of presenters and the skills they need to excel: a. Commentators b. Continuity announces c. Newscasters d. Disc jockeys e. Moderators.
3.       Suppose you are a continuity announcer with a television or radio station, prepare a script you would use to introduce the audience to the programs scheduled for the morning segment of your station’s transmission for tomorrow.
4.       Give a detailed and practical breakdown, with illustrations from known shows, of how the following strategies can make a presenter’s show popular: a. Using themed presentations b. Evoking friendliness in the audience c. Adequate research d. Originality.
5a. Compare and contrast the presentation and judging styles of the hosts on X-Factor Nigeria and             
American X-Factor, pointing out the specific hosts/judges you prefer and why.

5b. Supply three types of script formats and examples where each would be appropriate.

(1) The public speaking is closely related in a number of related in a number of respects to broadcasting. Discuss.
(2)   List and explain the “Dos” and “Don’ts” for broadcast Announcers or Presenters.
(3) Good presentation lies in the hands of the scriptwriter, and the later in the hand of the producer, but the warmth, enthusiasm and skill that a broadcast presenter puts into the programmers will make it a true success. Discuss.
(4)   List and explain other methods/techniques of broadcast presentation.
