TIME ALLOWED: 3 HOURS
1.       (a) In pharmaceutical microbiology practical examination, five organisms (F-J) were subjected to the following staining methods namely Gram stain, spore stain, and Capsule stain. The results below were obtained for each organism. From the list of bacteria below, suggest one suitable name for each organism based on the result obtains for each respectively.

Streptococcus pneumoniae, Klebsiella pneumoniae, Bacillus subtills, Bacillus anthracis, E. coli Staphylococcus aureus, Clostridium botulinum, Candida albicans, Mycplasma pneumoniae.
(b) During simple staining exercise, the bacteria listed below were stained and observe with Bright field microscope. Describe completely in one sentence the morphology of each of them (i) Streptococcus mutans (ii) Bacillus subtilis (iii) Sarcina lutea (vi) Staphyloccoccus albus (v) Diplococcus pneumonia.
(c) State factors that could account for Bacillus sbtilis appearing like Salmonella typhi during Gram stain.

2.       (a) In a practical class iml of brand of cough syrup was diluted using tenfold serial dilution method . Replicate drops were plated from tested %. The following count were obtained after 24hrs incubation at 37 degree: 33, 33, 34, 31 and 35. Estimate the bioload of this syrup, in cfu/ml. volume of drop = 0.015ml.
(b) With one correct sentence state one specific use of the following in a Pharmaceutical microbiology laboratory: (a) centrimide agar (b) MacConkey agar (c) mannitol salt agar (d) selentie F Broth (e) simmon citrate agar (f) autoclave (g) pour plate technique (h) hot air oven (i) petri dish(j) Hot air oven.
